  • Summer in the Amigos Garden

    By Nancy Calvin, Garden Volunteer

Well, we made it through our hotter daytime temperatures! Because of the heat during the summer, Garden Manager Bill Hooten changed our watering of plants and trees along the Amigos Garden fencing to two days a week: Tuesday and Friday. We would start earlier in the morning as well at 8am. Depending on the number of volunteers, watering should be done by 10am.

While doing this volunteering since April and not substitute teaching, I have been blessed to watch the change in the plants and water over a whole year! I have also watched the changes in all the plants Bill has planted, such as okra, which was absolutely amazing.

Along with the various construction changes such as a high tunnel and modified sun shade, various visitors have also come to the garden. The students who came to El Paso during spring break were very helpful and interested.
