Greetings from Mustard Seed Café and Amigos Garden! We hope that you and your loved ones are well. What a remarkable two months this has been – a strange and mysterious season – and we give testimony that God’s steadfast love and faithfulness have been present throughout it all.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2020 Mustard Seed Café began serving free nutritious meals curbside at the café and delivered by volunteers to vulnerable members of our community. We began by serving 50 meals a day and that number grew over the course of weeks to 300 meals each day! In nine weeks, over 6,500 meals have been carefully and lovingly prepared and placed in the hands of those who need them. And the quantity of meals is not the most remarkable thing about these nine weeks. The most beautiful part of it is the love of the Lord that motivates the volunteers and their earnest desire to serve the people of our community well.
In light of COVID-19’s blow to the socioeconomically vulnerable of our community and the long-term implications of this crisis, the Mustard Seed Café Board and Staff are making a significant change in the way that we operate moving forward. We will permanently drop the pay-what-you-can model and will instead offer delicious and nutritious lunch for free every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There will be no more prices on our menu or volunteer requirements made of any guest who comes through our doors. We are still working on our messaging but our focus will be
a warm welcome and the gift of a tasty meal
~
una calurosa bienvenida y el regalo de una rica comida
In light of this change and subsequent administrative and food service modifications needed to implement it, we ended our COVID-19 Nutritious Emergency Meals program on this Friday, May 15, 2020. We will close to the public for the last two weeks of May so that our staff and volunteers can ready the garden, kitchen, and café to reopen (to whatever degree is permitted) on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. When we reopen, it will be with a new website, a new logo, and a commitment to serve the beautiful people of our community as we find our way forward together in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you for being a friend of Mustard Seed Café and Amigos Garden. Please pray for us as we make these changes. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
All God’s best,
Christi Brown
